Is science on your mind all the while? Do you wish to be known as a scientist? Science is a very broad category. When you go deeper into the subject then you realize that there are hundreds of sub categories in science from which you can choose one to become a scientist. If you wish to start a career as a scientist then you must consider the following before stepping towards a career.

1. Have a knack

You must have a knack for science. If you are one of those who is scared of mathematics, physics or any other science then a career in science is not for you. Go for a science career only if you have interest in the technical things.

2. Proper education

A job in a particular field requires you to have at least a bachelor’s degree in the subject. Employers opt for candidates who have knowledge in a specific branch of science.

3. Internship / Training

While you are still in college you can join a organization as a trainee and acquire some experience in the field of your education. Working with an organization would give you on the job knowledge. You would not become a scientist the day you get your degree in your hand. You may have to start as lab assistant but that would take you up the success ladder.  An internship can even help you get a job or it might help you get references and recommendations for your future job.

4. Mentor

If you are able to find a mentor for yourself then the person can be of great help to you. A mentor would be able to provide resources to you and also introduce you to people who have knowledge and experience in the field.

5. Find your kind of job

At the tie when you are still in pursuing your studies, make up your mind as to what kind of job would you prefer. Would you like to get into a teaching career or would you like to start as a research scholar or would like to work in some bio tech company or something of that sort.

6. Apply in the entry level

When it is time for you to look for a job you may get lured towards high packages and reputed organization but you don’t realize that you won’t get great jobs without experience. Look for jobs that you can handle easily. That relate to your specialization and jobs which seemed to be designed for you. Once you gain a considerable amount of experience then you can hop to the next level in your career. Log on to various jobs sites and look for a job with that requires your specialization.

7. Stay connected to you Alma mater

Your institution would have jobs that are sent to them directly by employers. They are in touch with companies that come for job fairs. They want to hire you but they can find you only when you are in touch with your institution. So keep track of all the offers that your college has for you and get employed at the college itself.

A career in science is not easy but if you have the right education and move in the right direction then it is not impossible either.
